NEW PROGRAM: SAFETY SERIES STARTING THIS WEEK

Chatham community services will present a series of talks on safety on Tuesdays, starting this week.  Members of the Chatham Emergency Squad will talk about what to do in a medical emergency on October 1 (see listings below).  Staff members of the Morris County Communications Center will focus on the operation of the 911 system on October 8.  Officers of the Chatham Borough Police and Fire Departments will meet with the public on October 15.

Storytime

Storytime is an 8-week, progressive program for preschoolers and their caregivers.

Registration required

24 months and younger – 9:45 am

4 to 6 years – 10:15 am

2 to 3 years – 11 am

Chess for Kids

Registration required

Group 1:  Players with little or no experience with chess

4 – 4:45 pm     Ages 5 to 8      Limit: 12 children

Group 2:  Players who can finish a game with checkmate

5 – 5:45 pm     Ages 8 to 10    Limit: 16 children

The US Constitution: Its History and Current Applications – 7 pm

Salvatore Santoro, retired attorney and lecturer, will discuss the U.S. Constitution and how it applies to issues such as impeachment, the Electoral College, and federal vs. state government jurisdictions.

Gen Y Networking Group is a forum dedicated to job searching, networking, and career development.  The group is open to all job seekers.

Yoga Storytime with Miss Rachael – 10 or 10:45 am

For preschoolers and their caregivers – please choose one session

Practice yoga poses to go along with yoga stories.

Ⓐ Blood Pressure Screening – 11 am to 12 pm

Stop by for a quick and free blood pressure check.

English as a Second Language – 1:30 to 2:30 pm

For those wanting to improve their English language skills, we have started our next cycle of ESL classes.  The program is conducted by LEARN Associates and volunteer tutors for 8 weeks.  Students are divided into small groups by skill level.  Books and other learning materials are provided.  The program is free – all you need is a commitment to learn!  Register online, in person, or call 973-635-0603.

Hudson Shakespeare Company Presents: Doctor Faustus – 2 pm

Jon Ciccarelli, artistic director of the Hudson Shakespeare Company, and his troupe of actors will present Christopher Marlowe’s Doctor Faustus.  The tragedy portrays Doctor Faustus, a dissatisfied intellectual who strikes a bargain with the devil in his quest to learn magic.

SUNDAY, OCTOBER 6

Drew Art Association Show Opening Reception – 2:15 to 4 pm

Members of the Drew Art Association will hold a show of their multimedia art work in the Lundt meeting room.  The public is invited to attend.  The show may also be viewed during regular library hours throughout the month.  Reception sponsored by Friends of the Library
