Avallone Wins 400; Scerbo Sets Record for Chatham Boys Track at Valentine Invitational

MADISON, NJ - Senior Vincent Avallone won the 400-meter dash and freshman Anthony Scerbo set a JV meet record in the 1,000-meter run for the Chatham boys winter track team at the Wayne Valentine Invitational held Wednesday at Drew University.

Avallone won the gold medal in the 400 with a time of 52.65 for the Cougars.

Scerbo ran 2:31.57 to win the Wayne Valentine JV race in the 1,000, surpassing the old mark set last year by Mark Moreno of Morris Hills. Placing second in the same race was freshman Sam Viola of Chatham in 2:55.8.

Cougar senior Jaylen Haye set two personal records, with a 6.91 time that earned him sixth place in the 55-meter dash and clocking 37.82 in the 300-meter run to place third.

Chatham JV medal winners included:

Sam Dennerlein placed second in shot put for Chatham with a throw of 35 feet, 8 inches, and Chris Landolfi, sixth in the high hurdles in 9.49.
