SUCCASUNNA, NJ - Junior midfielder Noelle Bessette scored a goal in each half, leading Chatham to a 3-1 field hockey victory over Roxbury on Saturday in the quarterfinal round of the NJSIAA North Jersey, Section 1, Group 3 state tournament at Roxbury High.

Fifth-seeded Chatham (11-8-1) took a 1-0 lead in the first half on a goal by senior forward Ellie Walker. The Lady Cougars made it 2-0 after Bessette put in a rebound off her own shot. Kathleen Scerra's goal cut it to 2-1 for Roxbury before the halftime break.

In the second half, Bessette converted a penalty stroke to give Chatham the two-goal advanage. Junior goalie Abby Walrond was credited with 15 saves for Chatham.

The Lady Cougars play at top-seeded West Morris on Wednesday in the state sectional semifinals.
