CHATHAM, NJ - The list to choose from was long, but the first TAP Chatham Athlete of the Week is football kicker Tim Adams.

Adams wasn't even on the game roster for last Thursday's season opener against Montville at Cougar Field, but the 13-year-old freshman managed to produce the only points for the Cougars with a clutch 21-yard field goal with 30.4 seconds left in the first half. Those points allowed Chatham to stay within striking distance in a game that ended in an 8-3 loss.

When senior Nick Hill showed up for football practice a week ago in street clothes, Chatham coach Jason Izsa knew he would need a new kicker for the season opener against Montville. That's when Adams stepped onto the varsity roster and made the very first kick he ever tried in a varsity game.

"I was pretty nervous," Adams said. "Once I got on the field, I knew I could do it."
