CHATHAM, NJ - Just two years after it became a club sport, the Chatham Board of Education approved "Paddle Tennis" as a new varsity sport for Chatham High School at its regular meeting held Monday night.

About 20 students participated at the club level for the winter sport played outdoors. Chatham High's participation in the sport has led to the formation of a high school league, which begins play next winter.

Paddle Tennis has not yet been approved as a sport that qualifies as a gym exemption.

BOE member Rich Connors, chairman of the policy committee, recommended that Paddle Tennis be approved as a varsity sport
