CHATHAM, NJ - Chatham Borough Mayor Bruce Harris reported that Dixiedale Farm Property planner Michael Tobia will look into the possibility of moving one of the three entrances to the proposed development of multi-family townhomes from Hillside Avenue to River Road.
Harris characterized the meeting as being "very fruitful" and said that "I do think they will work with us," in reporting on the issue at the Borough of Chatham Council meeting on Monday night.
Harris explained that he received detailed reasons why the three entrances to the proposed 54-unit townhouse development were on Hillside Avenue in the "conceptual plan" reported to the Chatham Township Committee and Chatham Township Planning Board.
Harris pointed to "steep slope" and "wetlands" obstacles in placing the entrances on River Road. However, Harris got assurances from Tobia that he will consider making the southernmost entrance to the development on River Road if it can be worked out.
Harris also said that the developers would be doing traffic studies at the intersections of Watchung and Hillside avenues, as well as Watchung Avenue and River Road, and sharing them with Chatham Borough. He also said that the developers are working on a plan to alleviate construction traffic on Hillside Avenue.

An ordinance to rezone the 30-acre Dixiedale Farm property from single-family to multi-family zoning will be up for adoption at the Dec. 14 Chatham Township Committee meeting. The ordinance was passed unanimously on introduction.
