CHATHAM, NJ - On June 16th, 2018 at 9:18 a.m., Sergeant Kelly and Officer Crecca responded to the intersection of Fairmount Avenue and Red Road to investigate a motor vehicle accident in which a bicyclist was struck by a motor vehicle. Members of the Chatham Emergency Squad, along with a
paramedic unit, responded and provided medical care.
The vehicle driven by Pauline Ochieng, age 37, from Basking Ridge, New Jersey was traveling south on Fairmount Avenue. The bicyclist, Michael Farrell, age 47, from Florham Park, New Jersey was traveling north on Fairmount Ave. Ms. Ochieng made a left turn into a driveway on Fairmount Avenue and into the path of Mr. Farrell and he was unable to stop resulting in the collision.
Mr. Farrell was transported to Morristown Medical Center and released later that day. Ms. Ochieng was issued motor vehicle summonses for careless driving and for failure to yield to pedestrians or vehicles while entering or leaving highway.
All persons charged with an offense are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
