CHATHAM, NJ - A call to police about a man with a gun on Summit Avenue on Wednesday turned out to be false, according the Chatham Borough Police Department.
"We received a call of a man at a house on Summit Avenue with a firearm making threats," Kevin O'Shea of the Chatham Borough Police Department said. "Based on the nature of the call, the officers took extra precautions when they approached the house. There was not a SWAT team. They were the regular officers working (Wednesday).
"They made contact with the man who was agitated, but he was not in possession of a firearm. The officers calmed him down, and he voluntarily went to the hospital for evaluation. He is from Jersey City, but was in Chatham to visit his girlfriend."
