The Chatham boys fencing team defeated Mendham, 22-5, led by the undefeated sabres squad on Tuesday at the Chatham Middle School.

Chatham also team bested Morristown on January 9th with a 16-11 score. The following week they ended the Morris Hills' 5-0 conference streak with a 22-5 score.

Round one score: Chatham 8, Mendham 1 (Sabres 3-0, Foils 3-0, Epees 2-1)
Freshman Sabre Liam Kaplan began the night by digging a 0-4 hole. In an impressive display of focus and strategic adjustment, Kaplan proceeded to score five touches in a row to put the first Chatham win on the board. Juniors Preston Yen and Henry Epstein let the audience breathe easier with 5-0 and 5-2 wins respectively for a round one sabre sweep. Foils Jacob Mahon, Charles Gallucci, and Nate Eck doubled down with a 3-0 sweep of their own. Epees Ahmer Khan, Jonah Blanchard, and Michael Dwyer came within one touch of a third Chatham weapon sweep. Mendham managed to tip the single tied bout their way in the final seven seconds of the bout.

Round two score: Chatham 6, Mendham 3 (Sabres 3-0, Foils 2-1, Epees 1-2)
Sabres Yen and Epstein won their bouts 5-2 and 5-1 respectively. Vincent Liu subbed in to complete a second round sweep. Foils Gallucci, Eck, and Mahon added two wins and missed a tied bout that went to Mendham, setting up the epees with a 13-2 scoreboard. Blanchard clinched the meet in the second round with a 3-2 victory he secured only seconds before the clock would have gone into overtime. The Mendham B-strip took the second bout, while their C-strip reeled in a tied bout.

Round three score: Chatham 8, Mendham (Sabres 3-0, Foils 3-0, Epees 2-1) Final Score 22-5
Epstein, Liu, and Yen finished off the sabre bouts with a third round sweep and full sabre squad shutout over Mendham. Senior Foil Aidan West was double subbed for back to back wins, a move allowed by NJSIAA high school fencing rules. Junior Jayden Halkiopolus wrapped up the foil bouts with a 5-0 shut out. Epee Hayden Lacy had a hard fought tied bout that tipped for Mendham. Khan and Blanchard wrapped up the night with two more epee wins.

Kaplan, Yen, Epstein, Liu, Gallucci, Mahon, West, and Halkiopoulus all went undefeated for the night.
The Chatham Boys' team is the only remaining undefeated boys' team in the conference.
