WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ - Lightning within proximity of the field forced the postponement of the NJSIAA Group 3 boys lacrosse state final between Chatham and Ocean City until 5 p.m. Thursday at Shore Regional High School.

The game originally set for 7:30 p.m. Wednesday was scheduled as the second game of a state championship doubleheader.

The first game, the NJSIAA Non-Public B final between Pingry and Montclair Kimberley Academy had been scheduled to start at 5 p.m., but hadn't started at 6:30 p.m., with no estimated time when it might start. The teams were still waiting on the buses for the weather to clear.

"This game (MKA-Pingry) is not going to get off until - if it gets off at all - there is no way we can start on time," Chatham coach Tony Calandra said. "They want us to start by 8:30 and there is no way we'll be able to do that."

In 2019, Chatham's Group 3 championship game also was postponed by poor weather conditions. A scheduled Wednesday game against Moorestown had to be put off until Friday.
