CHATHAM, NJ -- It takes a special occasion to make it happen, but Chatham pulled out all the stops to welcome home its NJSIAA Group 3 state champion boys lacrosse team on Thursday.

When the Cougars arrived home after their 5-4 win vs. Ocean City at Shore Regional in West Long Branch, police cars, fire trucks, and emergency vehicles waiting to escort them back to Cougar Field.

COUGAR NOTESGail Kology stated the obvious when she gathered with other parents at Cougar Field to welcome home the victorious Group 3 state champion Chatham boys lacrosse team: "It's been a pretty good week at the Kology household."

Kyle Kology is home after winning the NCAA men's lacrosse national championship with the University of Virginia; CHS senior Lara Kology is a member of the NJSIAA North Group 3 champions, and Griffin Kology won both the North Group 3 title on Monday and the Group 3 title on Thursday ... the Chatham girls team, winner of 14 straight, came to Cougar field to welcome home the Cougar boys. Senior attack Haley Riabov now has some added incentive for the Group 3 girls final vs. Moorestown on Saturday, mentioning she'd like to receive the same treatment the boys got with the escort.
