Chatham Boys Sets New 4x400 School Mark at Group 3 Track Meet

Chatham's 4x400 record-setting team: Nick Ferrone, Vince Avallone, Jaylen Haye and Stephen Bondurich

COLUMBUS, NJ - Five Chatham boys track performers qualified for the Meet of Champions on Saturday during Day 2 of the NJSIAA Group 3 meet at Northern Burlington High School, including the record-setting 4x400 relay team.

Chatham's 4x400 team placed fifth in the event to earn a spot at the Meet of Champions Wednesday at Central Regional in Bayville. Nick Ferrone (50.5), Vince Avallone (51.2), Jaylen Haye (49.9) and Stephen Bondurich (49.1) clocked 3:20.86 to break the Chatham school mark.

The old record was set at the NJAC championship meet with Ferrone, Avallone Haye and Kevin Gesell teaming up for the relay.

Chatham senior Jason Alexis also qualified for the Meet of Champions by placing sixth in the triple jump with a leap of 43 feet, 6 3/4 inches. Alexis also ran 15.85 in the 100-meter high hurdles.

Ferrone was ninth in the 200-meter dash at the Group 3 meet with a time of 22.57.

Chatham's 4x100 tied for 14th with Nick Ferrone, Dylan Ott, Vincent Avallone and Jaylen Haye clocking 44.43.
