CHATHAM, NJ - There were 23 candidates, but only one vote.

The Chatham Borough Farmers' Market held its annual Heirloom Tomato, People's Choice Vote on Saturday and there was a robust turnout at the polls. Each taster received a ticket, which was placed into the cup of the favorite-tasting tomato sample.

Last year, Melick's Town Farm's "Green Giant" won the People's Choice Award.

"There are 23 different tastings," Margie Lowe, site manager for the event, said. "They all have a name and they all have different tastes. We've been cutting tomatoes since 9 o'clock."

Providing the tomatoes for the tasting were Melick's Town Farm, Central Valley Farm and Silver Lake Farms.

The winner will be announced at a future date, once all the tickets are counted.
