Chatham High Academic Team Places Second at National Championships

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Chatham High School Academic “A” Team finished second in the 35th annual National Academic Championship in Washington, D.C. on June 2-4, beating out almost all of the nearly 50 teams from across the nation who competed in this national event.

After sweeping through the preliminary rounds undefeated with a 6-0 record, Chatham earned the top seed for the playoff rounds. In the playoffs, they continued their winning streak, making it into the finals, where they finished second for the entire tournament.

Chatham's "A" team includes students Yulan Zhang, Felicia Guo, Armen Panossian and Ameya Phadnis.

 CHS Academic Team co-advisors Mallory Lynn and Tom Cummins are both proud of their students’ accomplishment. Ms. Lynn said, “We feel honored to have had the privilege of working with such a fantastic group of students.  The Chatham Academic Team defeated some of the best teams in the country, finishing as a semifinalist.  The students continue to impress us with their depth of knowledge and commitment to the team.  We will greatly miss the graduating seniors and are looking forward to another great year next fall.”

The entire CHS Academic Team consists of students Guo, Sophie Andrews, Rhea Sinha, Zhang, Oscar Paris, Eric Tonno, Panossian and Phadnis.
