Chatham swimming celebrated its 22 seniors in a special recognition ceremony during the CHS virtual swim meet against Parsippany on Thursday, February 25.

Each senior made the traditional walk across the bulkhead where they were presented with a CHS swim cap signed by all of their senior teammates. The seniors also received a personalized poster made by members of the junior class to commemorate their time on the swim team. The ceremony and meet were live-streamed, as spectators are currently prohibited at swim meets in the Northwest Jersey Athletic Conference.

The seniors on this year’s team are Mark Albarez, Caity Bailey, Sara Barrett, James Cava, Katie Caviness, Carlin Chazen, Tanner Clark, Ryan Gibbons, Bella Hoie, Jason Jiang, Aiden Kagan, Gianna Latorre, James Lord, Abril Manrique, Andrew Romain-Martin, Maddy Russo, Whitt Solak, Matthew Stryszak, Grace Toscano, Kevin Ulis, Ava Voight and Kate Ziegler.

Parents of seniors gathered at the high school with balloons, hot cocoa, banners & music to surprise their swimmers as the buses returned from the meet.  The celebration continued on Saturday in an outdoor ceremony where the seniors received their roses for Senior Day and had their pictures taken with family members.

Both teams won their meet against Parsippany with the girls tallying a final score of 129-40 and the boys outscoring their opponent 134-36, bringing both teams to a record of 3-0 for the season.

The Chatham girls team started off strong in the 200 Medley Relay with a 1-2 finish for the relay teams of Avery Nash (back), Delaney Moynihan (breast), Nicole Sim (fly), Bella Hoie (free) clocking a winning time of 2:03.34 and Gianna Latorre (back), Norah Murphy (breast), Caroline Cortese (fly), and Izzy Albarez (free) taking second place with a time of 2:15.11.

Chatham took the top three spots in the 200 Free with Sara Barrett (1:57.51), Avery Nash (2:20.04) and Kate Ziegler (2:26.02) scoring for the girls team.

Alison Barton (2:20.04) and Izzy Albarez (2:37.80) swam to first and second place finishes in the 200 IM.

Bella Hoie swam to a first place finish in both the 50 Free (26.95) and the 100 back (1:08.39).

The girls team had a 1-2-3 finish in the 100 Fly with Sara Barrett (1:00.75), Nicole Sim (1:03.99) and Caroline Cortese (1:14.63) finishing strong for the Cougars.

Chatham seniors scored for the Cougars in the 100 Free with Gianna Latorre taking first place (1:05.22), Kate Ziegler finishing second (1:07.64) and Carlin Chazen rounding out the top three (1:16.31).

The Chatham girls continued their strong swims in the 500 Free with Katie Crawford taking first (5:30.17), Alison Barton placing second (5:59.43) and Avery Nash finishing third (6:04.55).

Delaney Moynihan, Nicole Sim, Katie Crawford and Alison Barton combined to win the 200 Free Relay (1:49.69) and the captains relay of Bella Hoie, Ava Voight, Gianna Latorre and Sara Barrett placed second(1:59.20).

Delaney Moynihan (1:18.73) and Norah Murphy (1:31.39) swam to first and second place finishes in the 100 Breast.

The Chatham girls team finished the meet with the 400 Free Relay teams of Sara Barrett, Avery Nash, Katie Crawford, and Alison Barton (3:58.16) taking first and Carlin Chazen, Caroline Cortese, Izzy Albarez and Norah Murphy (4:43.30) finishing second.

The Chatham boys team started off strong in the 200 Medley Relay with a 1-2 finish for the relay teams of Atticus Chang (back), Aiden Kagan (breast), Mark Albarez (fly) and James Lord (free) clocking a winning time of 1:48.60 and Will Foucher (back), Tanner Clark (breast), Simon Stryszak (fly) and Whitt Solak (free) taking second place with a time of 2:07.83.

Chatham took the top three spots in the 200 Free with Kyle Beebe (1:51.25), Matthew Stryszak (1:51.83) and James Cava (1:55.81) scoring for the boys team.

Atticus Chang (2:12.74) and Erik Hoie (2:15.46) swam to first and second place finishes in the 200 IM.

Chatham seniors scored for the Cougars in the 50 Free with James Lord taking first place (23.91), Andrew Romaine-Martin finishing second (26.12), and Whitt Solak (28.89) placing third.

The boys team had a 1-2 finish in the 100 Fly with Mark Albarez (55.68) and Matthew Stryszak (59.25) clocking strong swims for the Cougars.

James Lord finished first in the 100 Free with a time of 54.33.

The Chatham boys team continued their strong swims in the 500 Free with Kyle Beebe taking first (5:04.91), James Cava placing second (5:22.62) and Will Foucher finishing third (5:36.07).

Andrew Romaine-Martin, Erik Hoie, Matthew Stryszak and Kyle Beebe combined to win the 200 Free Relay (1:38.98) and the team of Simon Stryszak, Ryan Gibbons, Emerson Greeve and Kevin Ulis finished second(1:50.19).

The 100 Back saw a 1-2-3 finish for Mark Albarez (1:01.29), Atticus Chang (1:02.90) and Tanner Clark (1:16.60).

Aiden Kagan finished first in the 100 Breast with a time of 1:08.90.

The Chatham boys team finished the meet with the 400 Free Relay teams of James Cava, Andrew Romaine-Martin, Will Foucher and Atticus Chang taking first (3:53.26), and the captains relay of Matthew Stryszak, Mark Albarez, Aiden Kagan and James Lord placing second (4:02.62).
