Chatham High School senior Alex Chin has been awarded a Certificate of Merit as the local honoree from Chatham High School for the Prudential Spirit of Community Award.

“Alex is incredibly deserving as our Prudential Spirit of Community local honoree due to his sincere commitment and service in his community as a junior firefighter with the Chatham Borough Fire Department," Andrea Murphy, Chin's counselor, said. "Alex has been a volunteer for over a year and is currently working hard toward obtaining his Firefighter One Certification. Alex is enrolled in the course, which is approximately 190 hours, and preparing for his state exam in April.”

The award was established in 1995 by Prudential Financial in partnership with the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP), and is America's largest youth recognition program based solely on volunteer service. It is meant to recognize a student who has made meaningful contributions to his or her community through exemplary volunteer service.
