WEST ORANGE, NJ - The Chatham Cougar ice hockey team dominated rival Madison, 5-2, on Sunday at South Mountain’s Codey Arena.

Madison struck first in the opening period when Erik Andersson found the back of the net three minutes after the opening face-off.

The Cougars responded quickly when Aidan Staenkelstraem and Barnett both scored for Chatham to put them ahead.
Staenkestraem described Chatham’s play as “well done.”

Even though Chatham never relinquished the lead, there was plenty of on-ice action. As the game neared its conclusion, hard hits and post-whistle contact led to several penalties, including a match penalty against Madison.

Cougar head coach Frank Gilberti credited the specialty units with the win.

“We were able to get a lot of chances off power plays, and we were able to score off of them,” the first year head coach said.

Chatham will play against Brick on Thursday in Wayne, N.J., while Madison heads to Skylands Arena to face Morristown, both in Holiday Tournament play.
