Chatham Hurdler Kirton Repeats as State Sectional Champion in Girls Meet

MADISON, NJ - Chatham senior Simone Kirton won the NJSIAA North Jersey, Section 2, Group 3 100-meter high hurdles championship for the second straight year at the girls track sectional meet held Friday and Saturday at Madison High.

Kirton ran a preliminary time of 14.24 and took the gold medal in the finals with a time of 14.35. She advances to compete in the Group 3 meet this weekend.

Also placing in the Group 3 sectional was Chatham's 4x800 relay team of Nicole Smizaski, Kate Purschke, Abbie Bigham and Moira Horan placed sixth with a time of 10:12.89.

Other notable Chatham performances:  

​Simone Kirton, 5th in the 100 preliminaries in 12.65​; Kate Purschke 10th in 800 with a season-best time of 2:30.46; the 4x100 relay team of Simone Kirton, Julia Shehadi, Julia Piness and Charlotte Buckman, 8th in 52:04, and the 4x400 relay team of Melina Panagakos, Nicole Smizaski, Jen Olnowich and Anya D'Costa, 9th in a season-best time of 4:17.20.
