CHATHAM, NJ – The Chatham Lady Cougars hosted the Summit Lady Hilltoppers in a field hockey classic on Monday and came away with a 1-0 victory.

The Chatham girls started off with possession, but neither team had a shot on goal for the first 18 minutes of the game.   Chatham’s Danielle Melchionna ended the shooting drought with the first shot on goal, which was saved by Angelica Angelo of Summit.

Chatham’s Kimmy Pyhel had her first save of the game by diving for the ball and tipping it to Kit Whiteman, who cleared it to the 40-yard line.

“It was just one of those saves where you use your instincts to get the ball and to just do and not think about it” Pyhel said about her save.

Summit’s Nikki Sharkin had a shot on goal that was saved by Chatham and taken down the field by Chatham’s Meghan Murry.

The Lady Cougars were soon given their second corner.  The ball was then passed to Maddie Hamilton, then to Melchionna.  Melchionna lifted the ball into the goal for Chatham and the Lady Cougars took a 1-0 lead.

The Summit squad then took over on offense and had three more shots on goal.  However, they couldn't put the ball in the net.

Chatham finished the game with the 1-0 victory in the tight contest.

July 13, 2018

To the Editor,

Clearly, we found the Library and local educational opportunities to our liking.

When it came to giving back to the community, I chose to support the Library and served as a Board member for 15 ...
