CHATHAM, NJ - Chatham softball pitcher Melissa Landry was taken away by ambulance in the top of the fourth inning after she was hit in the face by a line drive hit off the bat of a Sparta player.
Sparta was leading the game, 1-0, when the game was halted at the middle school.
Sparta pitcher Taylor Mayer sent this message to Landry through TAP into Chatham's facebook page. Here it is with her permission to print it.
"Hello, My name is Taylor Alyssa Mayer and I am a pitcher from the Sparta High School Varsity team.
I wanted to get a message to Melissa Landry the Chatham pitcher, who we played today.
I wanted to see how Melissa is feeling and to let her know that; " I am sooooo sorry for the line drive that hurt you!!!!!:(((( I hope you feel better real soon and keep on pitching. You're a GREAT PITCHER and super strong girl, never give up on your dreams"!! "
