Chatham Recreation Track Excels at Morris County Lakeland League Championships

RANDOLPH, NJ - A group of 55 athletes represented the Chatham Recreation Track and Field team and placed third overall in Division II of the Morris County Lakeland League Championships during a two-day event held this month at Randolph High School.

In the 13-15 boys division, Henry Wood of Chatham won both the mile and the 400-meter races. Wood clocked 4:53.76 in the mile and won the 400 in 56.39.

Also placing in the 13-15 age group for Chatham were: Sean Dutton took third in the 800 meters;   Brendan Arias placed fourth in both the 100 and 200 meters. The 4x100 relay team of Brendan Arias, Kevin Yang, Marc Jeremiah Untalan and Stephen Hofheinz placed second.

In the 13-15 girls, Maya Lee won the 200 meters in a time of 29:35 and placed 2nd in the 100 meters. The Chatham 4x100 relay team of Lee, Lauren Clark, Karen Cashel and Sophia Lally placed second. 

In the 9-10 boys division, Kevin Grundy placed first in the long jump, jumping 12 feet, 5 inches, and placed second in both the 100 and 200 meter events; Cole Morris won the 400 meters in a time of 1:17:28 and placed third in the long jump and fifth in the 200 meters; Jake Britton placed fifth in the mile. The 4x100 meter relay team of Gundy, Morris, John Barrett and Tommy Gorman placed second.

In the 9-10 girls, Elise Kristoff won the 100 meters in a time of 16:08 and placed third in the shot put;  Kayla Castellano placed second in the 800 meters; Fiona O'Donnell took second in the 200 meters and fourth in the 100 meters; Riley Snarr placed third in the long jump and fourth in the 400 meters; Kate McEvoy placed second in the shot put and fifth in the mile; Kaitlin Anderson took third in the 400 meters and Carina Gagliardi took third in the 200 meters. Snarr, O'Donnell, Gagliardi and Kristoff won the 4x100 relay in a time of 1:06:62.

In the 11-12 boys, Ben Solak won the long jump in 13 feet, 3 1/2 inches; David Ruggiero won the shot put with a throw of 27 feet; Anthony Nigido and Anthony Giraldo each took fourth place each in the long jump and shot put, respectively; Ryan DeVarenne placed second in the 100 meters; Luc D'Costa took third in the 200 meters; Jonathan Guerrero placed fifth in both the 800 and 100 meters. DeVarenne, D'Costa, Guerrero and Leo Valenzuela won the 4x100 relay in a time of 1:00:00.

In the 11-12 girls, Lauren Davis placed fourth in both the 800 meters and mile. Lily Anderson took 5th in the long jump. The 4x100 relay team of Anderson, Miranda Salinger, Annmarie Lord and Kathryn Foley placed fourth.
