Chatham Senior Center Announces March Programs

The Tone and Flex class meets Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at the Chatham Senior Center.
Technology help with various electronic devices is offered monthly at the Chatham Senior Center. Last month CHS students brought a robot with them to show the seniors.

Senior Services of the Chathams announces its March programs held at the Senior Center at 58 Meyersville Rd., Chatham.  For more information or to register, please call 973.635.4565.

FREE TAX AID – Thursdays, 9:30 a.m. – 2 p.m., Feb. 16 – Apr. 13. Trained AARP volunteers will complete tax returns and submit them electronically.  Will also do tenant rebate and property tax rebate forms. Participants do not need to be Chatham residents or have an AARP membership.  Appointments can be scheduled online at or by calling the Senior Center at 973.635.4565. Bus available for Chatham residents only.  

PROGRAM: SENIOR SCAMS – Monday, Mar. 6, 12:30 p.m.  Come listen to Jane Mason, former FBI agent, as she discusses scams.  Find out why they are targeting seniors, how to protect yourself against them and who to report them to.  Sign up. Refreshments.  Participants do not need to be Chatham residents. Our senior bus service is available to Chatham residents only.

GOLF CLINIC – Thurs., Mar. 9 – 30, 12:30 – 2 p.m.  Series of four 90-minute lessons. Instruction includes improving swing, understanding the short game and hitting off the tee. Emphasis on drills. $75 for series or $25 for individual class.  Must sign up.  Limited class size.  Instructor: Lou Ruina. Participants do not need to be Chatham residents. 

PI DAY OBSERVATION - Friday, Mar. 10, at 12 p.m.  Instead of celebrating math we’ll observe by eating pies, both savory and sweet.  Followed by related-theme movie at 12:30pm.  Event also includes brief presentation on Tri Town 55+ Coalition’s new transportation service available for area seniors. Must sign up. Either bring a pie or make a donation requested. Participants do not need to be Chatham residents. 

 DVD SPRING SERIES – Mondays, Mar. 13 – June 5, 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.  “Music as a Mirror of History” This 24-lecture series explores the fascinating and surprising connections between famous music and historic events.  Each session consists of two 45-minute lectures.  Some sessions will be accompanied by live piano performances by Bertha Mandel, our in-house professional pianist. No need to sign up.  Participants do not need to be Chatham residents.

TECH SUPPORT FOR SENIORS – Monday, Mar. 13, 3 - 4 p.m.  For assistance with your iPhone, iPad, laptop, etc.  Call Center at 973.635.4565 beginning Mon., Feb. 6 to schedule a 1-on-1 appt with a Chatham High School student volunteer.

NUTRITION SERIES – Tuesday, Mar. 14 at 12:45 p.m.  Topic is “Grub Around the World.” Learn about foods from different parts of the world.  With Jenn Luster, registered dietician from Chatham ShopRite. Call 973.635.4565 for information. The Senior Center is located at 58 Meyersville Rd. Chatham, NJ. Participants do not need to be Chatham residents. 

BLOOD PRESSURE SCREENING – Thurs., Mar. 16, 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m.  Provided by Chatham Hills Subacute Care Center. Open to the public.

BOOK CLUB – Tuesday, Mar. 21, 12 p.m. “Summer Before the War” by Helen Simonson.  All welcome to attend. Senior bus available for transport for Chatham residents. 

HEARING SCREENING – Friday, Mar. 24, 10 a.m.-12 p.m.  Provided by Montclair State University Audiology Dept.  Sign up requested. Walk-ins OK. Participants do not need to be Chatham residents. 

NONFICTION BOOK GROUP - Friday, Mar. 24, at 11 a.m.  “Law of the Jungle,” by Paul Barrett. All welcome to attend. Senior bus available for transport for Chatham residents. 

TONE & FLEX – Mon., Wed., Fri. at 9am – 10 a.m. General strength, balance and flexibility exercises. $54/12 classes; $45/8 classes or $8/ per class. Instructor: Donna Sue Dowton. Participants do not need to be Chatham residents.  

SENIOR MEN’S BASKETBALL – Mon., Wed. & Fri. 10 a.m. – 12pm. Held in the Chatham Twp municipal building gym located at 58 Meyersville Rd. Chatham, NJ. New members welcome.

 KATI’S YOGA – Tues. 10 – 11 a.m.  Exercises and stretches with attention to effective breathing, for all levels of ability.  $45/6-week session; $9/class. Instructor: Kati Walker. Open to non-Chatham.
