Chatham Set for Saturday State Football Playoff at Undefeated Barringer

CHATHAM, NJ - The Chatham football team is headed to the state footbal playoffs for the first time since 2011 with its 1 p.m. first-round matchup on Saturday vs. Barringer at Schools Stadium in Newark.

Chatham (7-2) is the sixtth seed in the NJSIAA North Jersey, Section 2, Group 3 bracket and will face an undefeated team in third-seeded Barringer (8-0).

The Blue Bears of Barringer have outscored their eight opponents by a composite sccore of 337 to 69. Those totals average out to 41.3 points scored per game vs. 8.6 points allowed.

In his last game, a 55-22 victory over Belleville last Friday, Barringer quarterback Zamar Wise threw for 400 yards and five touchdowns. He also ran for a TD. In that game, Corey Murray caught two scoring passes for Barringer and teammate Kariem Stewart had six catches for 144 yards.

This season, Wise has thrown for 1,610 yards and 17 TDs. He's been picked off three times. In the Barringer backfield, Ibn Adrien has rushed for 842 yards and nine touchdowns. Adrien averages 120 yard rushing per game.

Chatham's only state sectional championship came in 1984 when the Chatham Borough Eskies defeated New Providence, 20-14, for the Group 1 title.
