CHATHAM, NJ - Local businesses have struggled to survive the Coronavirus pandemic, but the Chatham Stitchery is one that was born out of the health crisis.
Chatham resident Margie Lowe has a booth at the Chatham Borough Farmers' Market, selling an array face mask styles in child, tween and adult sizes, she makes at her own Chatham Stitchery. Yankees, Devils, Giants and Jets masks are available for sports fans.
"I think people are realizing that they may be wearing masks for a while," Lowe said. "They might as well wear one they like."
Lowe saw a bee-design mask made by the Sewing Angels, who sewed masks for frontline workers, and fell in love with the fabric. She then started making masks for her own family and it sprung from there.
Sarah Lowe says that people are building a wardrobe of masks
According to the Chatham Stitchery Google page: "We make reusable, breathable, washable, face masks. The outside of the masks are made with 100% cotton fabric. Inside is 100% cotton flannel for a softer feel against the face. Each mask is hand made and sewn in Chatham, New Jersey."
