CHATHAM, NJ - Chatham Township Police Chief Steven Hennelly reported at the Chatham Township Committee meeting that he met with Chatham Borough Police Captain Brian Gibbons and Chatham Superintendent Michael LaSusa Thursday morning to discuss school safety measures.

"As you know recently our nation was rocked by the school shooting in Parkland, Florida," Hennelly said. "In response to this event I've been in constant contact with superintendent of schools, Dr. Michael LaSusa.

"We are dedicated to providing the students of the Chatham School District a safe environment that is conducive to learning. In an effort to enhance security for the students and faculty, additional officers have been deployed amongst the various schools to supplement the security personnel already on staff."

Hennelly also asked parents to talk to their children about social media accounts and warn them that "any post deemed to be threatening will expose them to criminal implications and school suspensions. We will no longer accept 'I was just kidding' as a reason for any post that implies violence."
