After water main replacement work settled, Chatham Township repaved Lafayette Avenue Credits: TAP Chatham

CHATHAM, NJ - It's been a while, but Chatham residents are now getting a smoothed over Lafayette Avenue in time for the new school year.

NJ American Water Company replaced the water main from Southern Boulevard to Shunpike Road and the township had to wait for the road repair to settle before it was repaved.

Thomas Ciccarone, Chatham Township administrator, was credited at the last Chatham Township Committee meeting with working out a deal that allowed for repaving of the entire road. NJ American was going to repave only part of the road, but Ciccarone negotiated a lump-sum payment of $215,000 from the water company and turned it into funding for the entire road.
