“We are excited to announce our annual Christmas tree sale, which serves as an important fundraiser for the Fire Department,” said John Benton, President of The Chatham Township Volunteer Fire Department. “Last year our volunteer members responded to more than 300 fire-related emergency calls throughout the Township and surrounding communities. We encourage any looking to decorate their home for the Holidays to stop by to see our vast selection of fresh cut Christmas trees, beautifully decorated wreaths and garland. We remain grateful for the support of the community and wish everyone a safe and happy Holiday season.”

The Chatham Township Firefighters Benevolent Fund assists the Fire Department in purchasing insurance to protect its volunteer firefighters should they be injured or killed in the line of duty. It also enables the Department to support its Fire Prevention Week and Fire Prevention Day events that are designed to promote community involvement and social awareness of fire safety and award the annual John M. Basile Volunteerism Award.

The award is in honor of Firefighter John M. Basile who passed away from cancer in May 1998 and is presented to a graduating Chatham High School senior in recognition of a consistent history and current involvement as volunteer in one or more organizations in the community.
