Chatham Track & Field Rallies to Defeat Mendham

Chatham's 4x400 relay team of Nick Ferrone, Steve Bondurich, Harris Eisenhardt and Kevin Gesell won the final event to win the meet against Mendham Credits: TAP Chatham

MENDHAM, NJ - Chatham's 4x400 relay team of Nick Ferrone, Steve Bondurich, Harris Eisenhardt, and Kevin Gesell won the all-or-nothing contest at the end of the meet to win the final five points and secure a 75-65 season-opening track victory on Tuesday.

With two events remaining, the Cougars trailed the home team 64 to 62. Chatham (1-0), however, rallied to take 13 of the final 14 points to come out with a victory in the cold and rainy weather.

Grant Hauck and Patrick Mortensen took 1st and 2nd (8 points) in the 3200 meter run before the 4x400 relay team won its race.

The throwing team - the shot put, javelin and discus -  took 23 of the possible 27 points in those events to key the Chatham victory.

Other first-place winner for Chatham included:

Will Mitchell in the 1600.
Steve Bondurich in the 400.
Kevin Gesell in the 800.
Nick Ferrone in the 200.
Ed Dennerlein in the Shot Put and Discus.
Lucas Montano in the Javelin.
Will Kraemer in the Pole Vault.
