NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ - Senior outside hitter Caroline Beardsley collected seven kills and nine digs and produced three aces and freshman Lisa Steward came through with 16 assists and five digs as Chatham rallied from a first-set loss to defeat New Providence, 2-1, on Tuesday in the opening game for the girls volleyball team.

New Providence, led by Elaine House, who finished with 18 total assists, and Myah Campbell -Reves (7 kills), won the first set, 26-15 before Chatham rallied to win the next two sets, 25-20 and 25-17, to take the match.

"They weren't doubting themselves after losing the first set," Chatham coach Anna Amster said. "We came out with a lot of confidence that we could win the second set and we never gave up. I think the first set had to do with first-game jitters. It feels really good to win our first game. The whole team played really well and our bench stepped up."
