CHATHAM, NJ - Agnes Cisek has been hired as the second woman police officer in the history of the Chatham Borough Police Department, it was announced on Monday night at the Borough of Chatham Council meeting.

Cisek was hired as a probationary police officer, giving Chatham Borough its first female on the force since Captain Karen Sullivan left Chatham Borough in 2009.

Cisek, a resident of Rutherford, attended Bergen Community College and William Paterson University, earning a bachelor's degree in psychology and education. Cisek, who is proficient in Polish, worked briefly as a pre-kindergarten teacher before moving into law enforcement.

"I have two kids and I wanted to be a positive role model for them," Cisek said. "I chose to find something challenging. I wanted something different day to day. I didn't want a 9-to-5 job and I wanted to help the community. I want to make a difference."
