DUNELLEN, NJ - The conditions were fine at the Rock Ice Center on Tuesday for the girls ice hockey opener between the Chatham-Madison team and Pingry, but Chatison was definitely experiencing a meltdown in the third period.
After Pingry scored five straight goals to tie the game with 1:55 showing, sophomore Molly Coyne and junior Jen Olnowich made for a happy ending when Olnowich carried into the left circle and centered a pass that Coyne put away (see the video below) with 39 seconds left for the 8-7 win.
Maya Tahl, a freshman from Madison, scored the first goal of the season for the Chatham-Madison team and her second goal with 16 seconds left in the second period ballooned the Chatison advantage to 7-2.
But Pingry scored five straight goals to make it a 7-7 game with 1:55 left before Olnowich and Coyne came to the rescue (see interview below).
Chatham-Madison moved to a 4-1 lead in the first period with Tahl and Lauren Arias (see video below) connecting.
