Under the Artistic Direction of Susan M. Coutts - Dance Innovations, (3 Townsquare-Chatham) is celebrating 34 years of innovative technical training, high standards in the arts and service to the community and to those less fortunate. DI offers classes from ages 2 ½ - adult, beginner through advanced levels, Recreational to Professional, students with special needs and challenges and is home to Envision Dance Exchange (an integrated dance & creative movement company for dancers of all abilities).
This year, however, Susan Coutts has taken it one step further offering Virtual classes, Outdoor Classes and highly limited studio classes where a few can participate in the actual studio experience (while 6 feet apart) while others may opt to take the same class virtually. “I refuse to give up – dance is far too important an outlet during these demanding times to not find ways within the mandated state guidelines to allow students to learn/continue their training & express themselves.” Masks will be worn by staff and students at all times, Barres/Mirrors etc. wiped down between classes, bathrooms/counters etc. cleaned continuously, temperature checks when anyone enters the building, limited patrons or dancers in the building, an outdoor tent for waiting (instead of the lobby area) and separate ways to enter and exit the facility so no close contact is maintained.
Available dance styles include Classical & Contemporary Ballet, Pointe, Tap, Broadway Jazz, Lyrical, Funk Jazz, Hip Hop, Contemporary, Modern Repertoire (variety of styles), Musical Theater & Workshops/Master Classes with professionals. For younger students DI offers combination classes in Ballet/Jazz/Tap/ Acrobatics &/or Hip Hop.
This year Dance Innovations as already procured St Elizabeth’s Outdoor Amphitheater so that their performing groups can continue to help those in need through their benefit performances. These groups allow students to use their skills to help their community, gain self-confidence and attain an added appreciation of the far-reaching power of dance.
