CHATHAM, NJ - Chatham's ECLC was able to make a positive out of the Coronavirus pandemic by holding its first-ever outdoor graduation ceremony for its 2020 seniors on Wednesday evening.
The school held a virtual graduation on June 11, but was able to get 16 of its 22 seniors together for an outdoor ceremony.
"I don't think we've ever had an outdoor ceremony," Jason Killian, ECLC principal said. "It's great that we're able to do this because this is the big event for all of them."
ECLC, a school for children and adults with special needs, was founded 50 years ago and the school has had a home in Chatham for 31 years.
The graduating seniors walked in to Pomp and Circumstance. Killian and assistant principal Allison Clemens made opening remarks. Peter Petrou, ECLC's executive director, also was in attendance.
The students received awards and scholarship recognition before each received their diplomas.
