Dear Editor,

On July 7th, the residents of Chatham Township will be faced with a decision to continue to have the existing Mayor Mike Kelly re-elected.  I am enthusiastically endorsing Mike for his re-election bid for the Chatham Township Committee, and I encourage the residents to continue to benefit from his numerous years of public service.

Mike Kelly was born and raised in Chatham Township and has a long history of leadership.  It was no surprise when he was unanimously voted in as the new Chatham Township Mayor at our 2020 Reorganization Meeting.

In addition to his position as a Chatham Township government committee member and Deputy Mayor, he was also a member of the Environmental, Open Space and Community Garden Committees. He has participated in a countless number of community events as a volunteer, supporting Chatham Township.  He has a proven commitment and lifelong dedication to Chatham Township; the list of his accomplishments is too long to itemize.

Mike Kelly is a loyal, dedicated and strong leader who is devoted to Township business. I have worked with him closely in the past as the Mayor of Chatham Township and as the Chair of the Chatham Township Republican Party.  I have witnessed his high ethical standards as a Township Government Committee member.  Mike reaches across the aisle and governs as a bipartisan. There is no favoritism between political parties – he makes decisions that are best for the residents of Chatham Township.

He is a fiscal conservative, advocating low taxes, reduced government spending and minimal government debt.

Chatham Township, the town we all love and live in, has very important issues to solve in the next several years. One of the major issues that we need to solve is the affordable housing project. This issue should have been resolved in Trenton by our State representatives a long time ago. Unfortunately, it has not. Today, every small or large municipality in NJ is left alone to address this issue themselves.

Mike Kelly has not created the affordable housing issue in Chatham Township. He is working to solve it.

We are fortunate to have such a dedicated person willing to continue to serve as our Township Committee member for the next 3 years.  It is important that we elect a candidate who will be diligent in serving the community and one who has a proven track record of accomplishments.  Those who have met Mike know about his kind and compassionate manner, and his ability to listen to new ideas.  He is the right person to help Chatham Township as we reopen our local businesses and come out of the COVID-19 pandemic and strengthen our community infrastructure.

Please join me voting for Mike Kelly, my trusted and well-respected friend for the Chatham Township Committee on July 7.

Best regards,

Tayfun Selen
