Acclaimed Chef Brian Walters, and his partner, Sean Flannery own Flannery’s Pub, a teeny bar/bistro located along South Avenue in Fanwood.

Enter once, and you’re an immediate “regular.” Why? Because, you are bound to know someone seated at the friendly bar, or someone who offers a wave, or someone that definitely knows someone who knows “YOU”!

And it’s so easy. I dropped by late Monday afternoon, and chatted with Kevin and Lori Connolly.

“So what do you think of the burgers,” I asked?

Together they responded, “Awesome!”

At Flannery’s, burgers and sandwiches are all served with house-made chips and pickles. However you’re welcome to order a Kobe beef hot dog, ($7.95), BBQ Short Rib Po Boy, ($8.95) or an Irish cheddar Grilled cheese sandwich, ($6.95).

However, if you’d like a more substantial lunch or dinner, opt for Flannery’s Signature Entrees. Ale Batter Fish and Chips are served with House-Made Tarter sauce; Shepherd’s Pie, a classic braised lamb stew, is topped with cheesy mashed potatoes, ($14.95), and a whole plate of Irish Cheddar Mac and Cheese, ($9.95).

Having first met Walters at a media event for no less than 40 people, the executive chef-proprietor is brilliantly at home, behind, or in front of an oven...regardless of the time of day, evening, or location. Consistently adapting his culinary skills to the occasion, Brian can cater a party in your home, host an elaborate wedding, create a meal in an awesome environment or serve drinks behind the bar at Flannery’s.

“It’s all about the quality of the food,” he said. "We offer a 16 oz. Strip Steak for $18. We sell at least 300 burgers a week. Our specials are what is 'fresh at the market.' They go out fast, because our 'Regulars' know when they are coming in.”

“I call it Gourmet Pub Grub,” adds Sean Flannery. “People love coming here. It’s always an occasion for fun!”

A graduate of the French Culinary Institute in New York City, Brian Walters has cooked at Le Cirque in Manhattan, and with Mario Batali at PO, before heading to Acqua in Raritan where he garnered  31/2 stars from the New York Times. He then created Char in Raritan, where guests order from a menu featuring fine dining specialties as well as great casual fare. From there, he took charge of the kitchen at Hamilton Farm Golf Club in Gladstone, before opening Flannery’s.

His partner, entrepreneur Sean Flannery, grew up in Scotch Plains and is noted for developing real estate projects throughout the area, and along the East Coast. Married, and a Westfield resident with three children, both Sean, and his mother, Betty Lynch are realtors.

Considering himself lucky enough to meet Brian Walters, an accomplished chef, the two gentlemen created Flannery's. Crediting himself for creating the logo and branding of the popular restaurant, Sean Flannery says, “The Flannery family name goes back at least 1,500 years. It is our dream to create a local “Watering Hole” that features great food, great drinks, and great ambiance. We believe Flannery’s is a place for folks to just come, eat, drink and have fun!”
