New Jersey “Yarnies” will be on the move, again, as they gear up for the Third NJ based Yarn Crawl, scheduled for April 18-21, 2013.

The Garden State Yarn Crawl, formerly known as the Northern NJ Yarn Crawl, is a FREE organized four-day event that encourages local support and investigation of the area’s popular yarn and craft emporia. In its third year, independent yarn and knit supply retailers in Northern NJ, from Hoboken to Wyckoff  – and many points in between - cooperatively band together and participate in support of fiber arts, their shops and the local business establishments that benefit from their customers.

Beginning April 18th, 2013, 16 independent yarn retailers will be offering visitors special events, discounts and promotions along with a FREE chance to win one of 16 incredible raffle baskets. The baskets are filled with products from the stores, sponsoring yarn companies and manufacturers. Knitters, crochet enthusiasts, and those who want to be, can learn more by going to www.gardenstateyarncrawl.com to see a list of the stores involved in this year’s promotion of independent yarn retailers.

“We find that local Yarn Crawls help participating stores meet new customers and neighbors, as well as those interested in all the needle arts – and that’s a lot of people these days. Promotions such as these support the community and stimulate creativity and help other local business at the same time. “ Said Phyllis Howe, Owner of knitting and howe llc, the company that produces events and marketing efforts for the craft and hobby industry.

The Craft & Yarn Council of America (CYCA) estimates that 40 million people do some form of needlework. The proliferation of online social knitting communities such as Ravelry.com (www.ravelry.com), which claims over 3,000,000 registered users, along with Facebook, Pinterest and Twitter, has helped unite knitting and crochet enthusiasts worldwide.

The Garden State Yarn Crawl is part of a localized effort, produced by the Great American Yarn Crawl, (http://www.greatamericanyarncrawl.com) which produces events and promotions in yarn-centric cities and states.  For more information on the Garden State Yarn Crawl, contact: phyllis@gardenstateyarncrawl.com

Clearly, we found the Library and local educational opportunities to our liking.

When it came to giving back to the community, I chose to support the Library and served as a Board member for 15 ...
