GREEN VILLAGE, NJ - This time the emergency came to them. And, as always, they volunteered to help.

Members of the Green Village Fire Department didn't have to rush to the scene on Saturday night, the trouble came to them.

GVFD members Rachel and Brian Mortensen, Will Sherlund, Stacey Jansen and Mike Rawson were enjoying the fire pit behind the firehouse during the Labor Day weekend when a couple on the way to the hospital made an emergency stop.

"It happened at the firehouse," GVFD Chief Mike Zalis said. "At 8 p.m., the couple pulled into the firehouse and the boyfriend said 'My girlfriend can't breathe'. Our membership stepped in and helped stabilize and improve the situation while EMS and the Chatham Township Police were called.

"The Squad got her to the hospital, and we heard directly from her boyfriend that she was released two days later. We were in the right place at the right time. It's was a little bit out of our wheelhouse, but in this day and age it's nice to have something you can feel good about."
