CHATHAM, NJ - When All-American lacrosse player Bridget Ballard found herself open in front of net at 99 career goals, it was Zoe Kraus who was there to assist her 100th.

Now, two years later, Kraus looks back on the significant event as she has just reached her own 100th career goal,

“I remember I assisted Bridget’s goal, and it was just really inspiring,” Kraus said.

In terms of her own milestone, Kraus hopes that “all the underclassmen on the team will look to it as they go through the years of the program, pushing to reach the goals they set for themselves.”

Kraus has been a critical attacking player for Chatham throughout her entire high school career. However, her contributions to the team and her road to 100 career goals were interrupted by an ACL injury, causing her to miss her freshman season. Nonetheless, Kraus rebounded back from her injury, scoring her 100th goal against Madison last week, helping to lead Chatham to a 16-6 victory over the Dodgers.

Zoe Kraus is the Hawk Allstate Chatham Athlete of the Week.

“I only got my 100th goal in three years technically, so it’s kind of different,” Kraus said. “I think it’s really awesome to be able to set an example for everyone else on the team that coming forward, no matter what happens or any injuries you may get, you can still turn it around and have a good season and career.”

Following her successful high school legacy, Kraus will continue her lacrosse career at the University of Pennsylvania in the fall.

“I just want to be an avid member of the team, and have the kind of experience I had here, where everyone was super close,” said Kraus, regarding her personal goals as a college athlete. “It didn’t matter who played and who didn’t. We all cheered each other on. I also want to be a good student-athlete and keep my grades up, too.”

With the end of the season approaching, Kraus included that the team “definitely wants to win states, coming off a loss from counties, and to beat Summit finally” as their final goals.

Chatham will be playing its first round in the state tournament at Hass Field vs. Middletown South on Thursday, May 18th at 4:30 p.m.
