CHATHAM, NJ - The brisk weather kept away the vendors and the people, but the Chatham Farmer's Market didn't disappoint the hardier customers.

That's because Luxx Chocolat made an appearance and Master Chocolatier Lisa Mecray Rogers brought her award-winning supply of creative chocolates, including "hot chocolate on a stick" to the Chatham market.

Mark down Nov. 7 on the calendar because that's the next time Luxx Chocolat will be making an appearance at the Chatham Farmer's Market, although Mecray Rogers said she wanted to make an unscheduled stop back in Chatham before that date.

Greselda Powell came from Morristown to buy an ice cream sandwich from Luxx Chocolat, but they were all sold out before she got there.

"It is the best vanilla ice cream I've ever had," said Powell, who was considering making a trip to New York to meet up with Luxx Chocolat on Sunday. "The vanilla bean is incredible."

Mecray Rogers attended chocolate school in Vancouver and then studied in France to become a Master Chocolatier. Her company has won 120 gold, silver and bronze awards for producing the "most unique" chocolates and for having the "best ingredients."

"Americans are so far behind the eight-ball when it come to chocolate," Mecray Rogers said. "You probably didn't know you could go to school and learn about chocolate. We use all natural ingredients that are fresh and produced locally. We're very different because we're more creative than others."

Other shoppers were treated to free samples of hot eggplant rollatini served up by Jessica Pacheco, representing Paolo's Kitchen, located on South Street in New Providence.

Chatham resident Lin Cai came to the market to check out Luxx Chocolat and buy the tomatoes offered by Silver Lake Farm, which made the trek from Blairstown to offer its vegetables.

"Their tomatoes taste the best," Cai said. "It reminds me of the tomatoes I ate when i was a kid."
