Christian Panarese, a 13-year-old Westfield resident, attends Edison Intermediate School. Born a spastic quadriplegic, he is confined to a wheelchair. A patient at Children’s Specialized Hospital since he was 9 months old, Christian is desperately in need of a new wheelchair. Rapidly outgrowing the wheelchair that he is forced to use on a daily basis, the purchase of a new wheelchair is not within the family budget.
Christian would truly appreciate a new wheelchair with the capability of allowing him to stand-upright. This new wheelchair would afford him the opportunity to join classmates at the chalkboard, where they may be completing math problems, or in English class, where students are discussing new topics for a writing project. A new wheelchair would give him the flexibility to move leisurely around his neighborhood, the halls at Edison Intermediate School, and navigate through Malls and other shopping areas.
A new upright wheelchair, would afford him the luxury of having lunch with  friends at different tables in the cafeteria, and actually allow him to go out with his pals for an ice cream cone.
Please help Christian. Let’s show our support and allow him to enjoy some sense of normalcy.  Raised by his grandparents, Frank, a retired New York City Police Detective, and his grandmother, Nancy Panarese, a new wheelchair would be a great help to this fine young man.

Mike Czech – One of Chatham’s Hidden Gems….

On a warm sunny day, back in 2008, at Southern Boulevard Elementary School stood a very tall man (6.5” to be exact!), soft-spoken, warm and friendly as he was surrounded by a whole group of children running around him (at his knees).

His name was Mike Czech and he was teaching the kids how to play a game on the open court.   I introduced myself to help assist him as a fellow ...
