Karpowic Pitches Shutout for Chatham Baseball at State-Ranked Randolph

The Chatham baseball team won its 12th game of the season with a 6-0 win at Randolph Credits: Glenn Clark

RANDOLPH, NJ - Junior right-hander Matt Karpowic tossed a five-hit shutout in leading Chatham to a a 6-0 baseball win over Randolph, ranked No. 17 in the state by, on Wednesday.

Karpowic, who kept Randolph (12-3) off balance with his curveball, struck out seven and walked one for Chatham (12-3), which pushed across three runs in the fifth to build a 4-0 lead.

The Cougars got their first run of the fifth when Matt Devlin's bunt was thrown away, allowing Connor Winans to score. Chris Delsandro then scored on a wild pitch before Jimmy Cunningham capped the three-run rally with an RBI single.

Sean Lee scored in the third inning on a ball hit by Sam Browning, which was ruled an error. In the seventh, Browning put down an RBI squeeze bunt to key a two-run rally.

Chatham plays at Morristown on Friday and has a May 10 date with Mendham at TD Bank Ballpark, home of the Somerset Patriots, on Wednesday night in Bridgewater.
