CHATHAM, NJ - The largest number of students to ever attend Chatham Schools went back to class on Tuesday.
Chatham Superintendent Dr. Michael LaSusa reported last month that 4,200 students had registered for the 2016-'17 school year, the most in the history of the district.
According to LaSusa's report, record numbers of students are attending the high school (1,240) and the middle school (1,089).
Principal Cheryl Russo reported Tuesday that there are a record 693 students attending Lafayette School, which houses fourth and fifth graders.
"We have 16 sections of fourth grade and we've never had that many before," Russo said. "We also have 29 students new to Chatham this year."
