Madison Area YMCA To Participate in Girls On the Run

The Madison Area YMCA is pleased to announce that it will participate in Girls On the Run, an experiential learning, nonprofit prevention program for girls in grades 3-5 that inspires girls to be joyful, healthy and confident through a fun, experience-based curriculum that creatively integrates running.

Practices will take place 3:45 p.m.-5:00 p.m. at the Madison Area YMCA every Wednesday and Friday for 10 weeks starting Wednesday, April 10, through Friday, June 14. The event is 9 a.m. on Saturday, June 15, in Florham Park. Girls On the Run participants will race in the Florham Park Jaycees 17th Annual 5K Run.

Madison Area YMCA staff members Aquatics Director Lisa Kowal; Associate Health & Fitness Director Jennifer Casanova; and Youth & Teen Director Emily Galbraith will coach the team.

Participants may register by visiting www.girlsontherunnj.org or by mailing a completed registration form and a check for $185 made payable to Girls On the Run East, P.O. Box 896, Millburn, NJ, 07041. Please note: Girls must have a parent/adult running buddy on the day of the race. A coach may be a buddy if asked.

The route: Start at Tucker Street; right onto Briarwood Rd.; right onto Lincoln Ave.; straight onto Rockwood Rd.; left onto Riverside Dr.; left onto Braidburn Rd.; right onto Lakeview Ave.; across Cathedral Ave.; straight to Briarwood Rd.; left onto Tucker Street to Finish.
