Malatesta Helps Chatham Boys X-Country Qualify for State Group 3 Meet

MORRIS PLAINS, NJ - Senior captain Paul Malatesta came through with a "spectacular race," according to Chatham boys cross-country coach Patrick Barry, as the Cougars held on to the fifth and final qualifying spot Saturday for next week's state Group 3 meet.

The Cougars placed fifth at the state sectional meet at Greystone Park with 139 points Saturday, outpacing Red Bank, which finished sixth. Colts Neck, West Windsor-Plainsboro North, Mendham and Hopewell Valley finished ahead of Chatham.

The top five for Chatham included: Colin Logsdon, 11th in 16:12; Bo Raadam, 12th in 16:14; Paul Coyne, 29th in 17:09; Paul Malatesta, 42nd in 17:22, and Liam Cadden, 45th in 17:26.

Also in the pack for Chatham were Alec Gonzalez, 73rd in 17:55, and Matt Stasiukevicius, 80th in 18:07.

The Group 3 race is set for 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12 in Holmdel.
