CHATHAM, NJ - A Master Plan for the commercial "M" Districts of Chatham Borough was presented at the Borough Council meeting on Monday night.

Dr. Susan Blickstein explained the plan for River Road, Commerce Street, Watchung Avenue and Summit Avenue. It will broaden zoning for use in the industrial area of the borough, make it look nicer and open it up to pedestrian use. The presentation detailed the plan previously made available online at www.chathamborough.org.

In the end, it can take years to develop the vision put forth by Blickstein, who admitted as much. The first step would be to adopt the vision, change the zoning and then promote it to businesses.

"I think that once the zoning is implemented, you might get one or two catalyst projects that test the zoning to see what they can accommodate on a certain site," Blickstein said. "I can tell you the communities that have done it well have adopted their vision, changed their zoning and also realized that it's a live document. Have ongoing dialogue and paying attention to what is working and what needs to be changed."

The target date for putting the amendment to the master plan up for a public hearing is Nov. 13.

Longtime Chatham Resident Passes the Torch to Current Residents

July 13, 2018

To the Editor,

I moved to Chatham from Ohio in 1961 and left just over a year or so ago. My daughters went through the school system and one of them still lives there with her son.

Clearly, we found the Library and local educational opportunities to our liking.

When it came to giving back to the community, I chose to support the Library and served as a Board member for 15 ...
