CHATHAM, NJ - Mayor Bruce Harris revealed at the Borough of Chatham Council meeting on Monday night that he held a meeting last Friday with the State Department of Transportation, along with the planner and engineer for Morris County, to discuss the longtime traffic problems on Main Street in Chatham.
"The real purpose of the meeting was to make sure the DOT and the county were on the same page with respect to what studies are going to be done," Harris said.
Harris said the meeting took place on his home turf in the municipal building and that he convinced them to include Chatham in the planned study of the Park Avenue/Columbia Turnpike intersection in Hanover. Chatham previously had been left out of the study.
One solution that could be studied is another exit off Route 24.
"There may be other avenues as well," Harris said. "It's going to be a long process. The study is going to take about 18 months. I was glad that we were able to have that meeting."
