To the Editor:
I would like to say who I have grown to know Mike Kelly to be in the 11 years I've lived here. He is deeply dedicated to serving the Township for countless hours. We as residents ask an unheard of amount of our volunteer representatives. They have the option to immerse themselves or be less involved. Mike puts in the time and seeks to understand issues inside and out.
My volunteer activity over the years is a much shorter list than Mike's, but it has always intersected with his. I don't think I've seen anyone in the Township (who isn't an employee) haul more wheelbarrows of mulch for our footpaths and Community Garden, or chainsaw more trees away from our public trails, or make more unexpected offers to help with the youth projects I'm associated with. It's more joyful to give your time when there are people like Mike who get there early and stay till the last, always contributing his thoughts and labors for the public. Whatever comes of the hot topic currently -- the location of Chatham Township's important Affordable Housing obligation -- I know that Mike is constantly working for solutions, and will simply not stop working until the optimal solution is found.
