News You Can Use

Dear Readers,

As one who is continually searching for “What’s Really Hot” and “What’s Not” News, I am continually mesmerized by so-called “awards” that are granted to “Thee Best Restaurants, The Best Stars of your favorite Shows,” and of course, the “Best of whatever is on the lips and tongues of the “Rich and Famous.”

As a Food Writer, I am forever reading reviews of restaurants throughout the State of New Jersey, and especially those located throughout Central Jersey. Do I always agree with the writers of these reviews? Of  Course, Not!  I keep telling myself, “They are opinion pieces written by respected writers who are skilled in their craft.”

My response, is always, “You do not have to accept their opinion. But, if you are more than intrigued by the review, why not take a moment to respond to the reviewer? You’ll definitely feel better after you have expressed your own opinion.”

Thank-you for taking the time to read my latest copy of “News You Can Use”.  I look forward to hearing from you.

Recently, I received a copy of “YOUR AAA” dated August 2015, Volume 48 Number 8. I was completely mesmerized by the recipients of the Four Diamond Awards.  According to the article, “In May, 2015, AAA Northeast invited Six New Jersey properties that received Four Diamond ratings, to join in a celebratory lunch hosted by The Manor in West Orange.”

According to the article “Only 5 percent of 28,999 AAA Approved hotels, and 2 percent of 30,000 AAA approved restaurants, share the exclusive Four Diamond rating.
“Four Diamond hotels are committed to providing guests with personalized experiences and attentive service in comfortable, high-quality, surroundings.”

‘’Restaurants with Four Diamond ratings provide fine dining with attentive service and creative menu offerings, featuring high quality ingredients.”

Please understand, that as consumers, you definitely do not have to agree with these opinions and choices,  And quite frankly, I don’t always agree with these stated opinions.  However, while writing this piece, I was thinking, “Wouldn’t it be interesting if we got together and generated our own “PREFERRED” LIST OF FAVORITE PLACES TO DINE?”

Listed below are the FOUR DIAMOND AWARDS that appeared in my AAA MAGAZINE, AUGUST 2015..VOLUME 48  No. 8

1. *The Westminster Hotel, a boutique hotel located in Livingston, has been a Four Diamond property for the past 10 years.
2. *Il Capriccio in Whippany celebrated two decades of recognition this year. Known for its sophisticated and classic Italian fare, served in a Tuscan-style dining room. Fresh seasonal ingredients are often grown on the family farm.”
3. * Located in West Orange, The Manor, first received the Four Diamond Award in 1988. Now, the place caters to weddings, celebrations, and family affairs. The Manor is frequently known as a place that features enormous buffets.”
4. * Restaurant Serenade, Chatham. Recognized since 1999, Popular Chef James Laird has inspired a menu of contemporary cuisine which is appreciated by guests who reserve for dinner and family occasions.”

And now it’s our turn. How about we create our own special list of our favorite places to dine in New Jersey.  Please, be kind enough to send me a list of your 3  favorite restaurants. I will cull each of the lists and report my findings on Halloween, October 31st, 2015.  All I ask is the restaurants be located in New Jersey.

My email address:
My best to each of you for a joyous month of August. I surely look forward to hearing from you.

When it came to giving back to the community, I chose to support the Library and served as a Board member for 15 ...
