CHATHAM, NJ - In case there is a need for rapid emergency transport and care for trauma patients, Chatham showed it was ready on Monday night with a successful landing of a NorthSTAR medevac helicopter on the Chatham Middle School oval.
Tim Brown, a paramedic flight nurse and a member of the Chatham Emergency Squad, was aboard the helicopter that landed on the Chatham Middle School oval on Monday night
The Chatham Borough Fire Department, Chatham Township Fire Department, Chatham Emergency Squad and the Chatham Borough Police Department participated in the successful training exercise.
"This has been the fourth or fifth time we've scheduled this and it's usually been canceled due to the weather," Chatham Borough Fire Chief Doug Allan said. "This comes out of Somerset County. Two state troopers and a flight nurse were on board."
The Department of Health and the New Jersey State Police coordinate the emergency service for trauma patients.
"We are free as opposed to a private helicopter coming in," Brown said.
