The public is invited to Open House Month at the Senior Center of the Chathams now through the end of September. Come in to take a tour of the facility, meet the staff, talk with participants, and learn about the wide array of activities, programs, classes, and services offered. Try an exercise class like Tone & Flex and Qi Gong Tai Chi for free. Participate in Pickle Ball or Ping Pong. Sample the watercolor workshop, attend a lecture, participate in a discussion group, watch the weekly movie, or play one of the group games, like Canasta, Pinochle, or Rummikub while here.
The Senior Center of the Chathams is a 28-year old nonprofit agency which encourages the independence and well-being of seniors and their families in the greater Chatham area by connecting them with each other and the community at large. Participants do not need to be Chatham residents. In fact, many clients come from other towns in Morris, Essex, Union, and Somerset counties.
The Center’s goal is to provide a welcoming place for seniors to meet new people, interact and socialize with one another, try something new, and continue to learn new things.
Typical comments from our clients and their families include:
- “Having the Senior Center here with all the services that they offer has tremendously changed our lives.” (Anne, client’s daughter)
- “Not only do we come for the exercise, but also for the friendship. The Senior Center is like my second home.” (Ella)
- “After my wife passed away, I decided moping around the house wasn’t a good idea and I became a steady ‘customer’ you might say. Social, intellectual, educational, nutritional… there are many reasons to come.” (Ron)
- “The Senior Center is all about making life better in mind, body, and spirit, and is therefore a very important part of my life.” (Ellie)
The Center is free to join, with a few classes, events, and workshops requiring a fee. Center hours are 9:15am-3:00pm, Mondays through Fridays. We are located at 58 Meyersville Road, Chatham, NJ. Bus service is available to Chatham Borough and Township residents by calling the Center.
